Homeopathy
The *Institute of Classical Homeopathy (ICH), located in San Francisco, offers professional training (and continuing education programmes) in classical homeopathy, adhering to the standards of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners, currently the most rigorous standards of classical homeopathic practice in the world. Courses at the ICH differ from and complement others by offering an extensive in-depth study of the philosophy through Dr. Samuel Hahnemann's writings and the work of the other classical practitioners of the discipline. The ICH promotes thorough education in the fundamental theory and principles of homeopathic medicine. The Institute is unique in the depth and thoroughness of its approach and is widely regarded as offering the most authentic Hahnemannian Homeopathic Medical Training in the United States.
Start with an equilateral triangle whose sides have length 1.
2. On the middle third of each of the three sides, build an equilateral triangle with sides of length 1/3. Erase the base of each of the three new triangles.
3. On the middle third of each of the twelve sides, build an equilateral triangle with sides of length 1/9. Erase the base of each of the twelve new triangles.
4. Repeat the process with this 48-sided figure. See the likeness to a crystal of snow emerge?
At the right, figure 4 is magnified by a power of two.
The "limit curve" defined by repeating this process an infinite number of times, adding more and more, smaller and smaller triangles at each stage, is called the Koch's SNOWFLAKE CURVE, named after Niels Fabian Helge von Koch (Sweden, 1870-1924).
The snowflake curve has some interesting properties that may seem paradoxical.
# The snowflake curve is connected in the sense that it does not have any breaks or gaps in it. But it's not smooth (jagged, even), because it has an infinite number of sharp corners in it that are packed together more closely than pebbles on a beach.
# The snowflake never escapes the dashed square you see in figures 1-4, so it encloses a finite amount of area no larger than a credit card. On the other hand, at each step building the new little triangles adds more than one unit of length to the curve. To be precise, [4 ÷ 3]n - 1 units are added at the nth step, so the length of the snowflake is larger than 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + ....... = infinity. The snowflake curve is infinitely long, yet it would fit in your wallet!
# Under a magnifying glass, a little piece of the snowflake looks identical to a larger, unmagnified chunk. Objects that exhibit this kind of self-similarity are called FRACTALS and are of great research and applied interest in modern science and mathematics.

Proprioceptive Stimulation
Proprioceptive stimulation is a holistic technique in which a tactile stimulation is applied to the bottom of the foot. Through this stimulation, a message is sent to the cerebellum (the balance center of the brain). Acting on this signal, the cerebellum initiates a postural correction affecting the entire body ... . This postural correction encourages the body to readjust itself towards a state of harmony and well-being. Prof. Brian Rothbart, a podiatric physician and surgeon, believes that correct positioning of the body can improve your health. He describes himself as a podiatric biomechanical engineer and works to show that by correcting your posture you can reduce stress on your muscles and internal organs, improve your blood flow, breathe better and eliminate some kinds of pain. His web site: *Proprioceptive Stimulation gives details about his work and the theories behind it. Click on the name underlined above for access to this site.

This service does not offer advice about health or healthcare and cannot substitute for a healthcare practitioner. Only personal contact with the qualified healthcare practitioner of your choice -- who knows your health history, who can examine you, and who can bring expertise and experience to bear on your situation -- can yield advice about how you ought to handle any of the information you obtain from sources accessed through this service.
Decisions regarding your healthcare should always involve the assistance of a trusted healthcare practitioner.
Maintaining and enhancing your health is at least as important as regaining it when you are ill. The resources in this section offer information about staying well and eating right, among other things.

Health Care Information Resources makes information about health and disease accessible in the belief that the informed consumer is a more satisfied consumer of healthcare.
Decisions regarding your healthcare should always involve the assistance of a trusted healthcare practitioner.
nternet resources for a variety of health care workers appear in the list below; take your pick! Remember to search the Illness, Wellness, and Alternative Medicine pages for more links to specific diseases, health concepts and practices of interest to health care workers.
Please use the Introduction or the Got Any Comments pages (accessible through the icons at the bottom of this page) if you want to send me e-mail about these resources.

Health Care Information Resources makes information about health and disease accessible in the belief that the informed consumer is a more satisfied consumer of healthcare.
If you want to locate and use health care resources (or resources on any other topic) but don't know where to find them, use any of the links to search engines and catalogues below to locate them. You can search for web sites, discussion lists, or scientific articles and other publications from the health care literature here. Click on one of the underlined choices in the previous line to move to search engines for that type of material.
Good luck in all your searches! If you don't find what you want on your own, send me a note to let me know by using the e-mail links in the: Introduction or Got any comments? sections of this web page.

You can include or exclude Usenet, Newswires and FTP, if you wish, and the results are displayed by search engine, consecutively. It's a great advance on the old method of searching, one engine at a time, and plodding through results from each search, separately. Give it a try!
5. FAST/all the web

Scirus is a comprehensive science-specific search engine. Driven by the latest search engine technology, Scirus searches over 167 million science-specific Web pages, enabling you to find scientific, scholarly, technical and medical data quickly. Scirus reduces "false drop" by excluding references to material that uses the language you searched but comes from non-scientific disciplines. It helps you find peer-reviewed material and ranks results in order of relevance to your question. Use Scirus to find academic material in the sciences without all the sorting out of irrelevant material you have to deal with from other search engines. Scirus is a product of the publishing giant Elsevier.

PubMed is NLM's (the U.S. National Library of Medicine) search service to access the 9 million citations in MEDLINE and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating on-line journals), and other related databases. Access to the citations is free, but you will usually have to go to a health sciences library to locate a copy of the articles you want to read.
20. NLM Gateway
The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings, and HSRProj.
